The little story
The Tarmac Disc was designed to be not only fast, but fast everywhere. Long climbs, windy flats, Grand Tour stages and local cyclosportives: it's a competition bike that excels on all these terrains. How do you do it? By starting with the frame, to which the Rider-First Engineered™ design ensures a perfect fit regardless of size, adding a few aerodynamic improvements that make it 45 seconds faster over 40 kilometers than the Tarmac SL5, and then lightening it by 20%. The result: it doesn't get any lighter, faster or more maneuverable.
To build the Tarmac, Specialized used software from the aerospace industry that revolutionizes the structure and lamination sequence of FACT 12r carbon. Aerodynamics is the main factor that can be played with to make you faster. You'll be pleased to know that the Tarmac has new aerodynamic features that don't affect its weight. Research has identified three possible improvements: a new fork shape, new seatstays The result is a bike that is 45 seconds faster over 40 kilometers than the Tarmac SL5.
The new performance road geometry is based on countless Retül data points and feedback from professional riders. This has resulted in a performance road geometry that combines a responsive front end with a short wheelbase to provide instant response and ideal power transfer. To optimize comfort, the seatpost incorporates flex in the upper 120mm (where there is no clamping). In addition, Specialized lowered the seatstaysIn addition, Specialized lowered the seat tube, modified the shape of the seat tube and increased the tire-to-frame clearance to accommodate larger tires.
